WELLNESS CARE AND THE COMPLETE PHYSICAL EXAM:
Preventative medicine is part of helping your pet maintain good long term health. At Parkway Veterinary Hospital, we believe that a complete “nose to tail” yearly examination is an integral part of maintaining proper care of your pet. Our doctors strongly recommend and provide annual physical examinations to help assess your pet’s overall health, and make suggestions to stop problems before they start. Your pet’s health changes as they age, and seeing the vet on a yearly basis can help us catch developing conditions before they compromise your pet’s health.
There have been many recent advances in veterinary medicine and vaccinology. The staff at Parkway Veterinary Hospital is knowledgeable about current vaccine protocols that help protect your pet against potentially life threatening diseases.
HEARTWORM TESTING AND PREVENTION:
Heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes, is prevalent in this area of the country. At Parkway, we recommend annual heartworm testing and year round preventative medication for our canine patients. We are also available to discuss this condition for our feline patients.
ROUTINE LABWORK AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING:
Laboratory testing is an important component to help assess your pet’s overall health. Parkway Veterinary Hospital is equipped with state-of-the art in-house testing equipment for routine blood screenings, pre-anesthetic evaluations, tick borne diseases, feline leukemia and immunodeficiency viruses, urinalysis and fecal examinations. Our extensive laboratory provides accurate and immediate information to help diagnose and treat your pet’s conditions.
The veterinarians at Parkway Veterinary Hospital are trained in routine surgical procedures and are experienced in a wide variety of techniques. We have the latest veterinary anesthetic monitoring systems available including EKG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature level, heart rate and respiratory rate measurements. Our doctors and technicians take great care in providing individual anesthetic and pain management protocols for all surgical patients.
We also utilize a board certified surgeon who is available to travel to our hospital for orthopedic and more extensive soft tissue surgeries.
Your pet requires regular dental care. Our physical examinations include a thorough evaluation of the oral cavity, and we help determine what your pet’s dental requirements may be. We perform routine dental cleanings, extractions, and minor oral surgeries. We also provide information and products to help maintain good oral health for your pet.
Radiographs are performed routinely at Parkway Veterinary Hospital and are essential to help diagnose certain medical and surgical conditions. Our state –of –the –art digital xray system allows images to be displayed and evaluated instantly on a computer. We can also save your pet’s images on a CD, or e-mail them to a board certified radiologist if further evaluation and consultation is indicated.
Ultrasound is an important, non-invasive diagnostic tool that often helps explore medical conditions beyond a routine workup. We utilize the expertise of a traveling board certified veterinarian for both echocardiograms and abdominal ultrasounds at our hospital. Endoscopy is also offered by this clinician if needed.
Microchipping is a permanent type of identification for your pet .It involves inserting a small chip (the size of grain of rice) under the skin between their shoulder blades. Collars and tags may be lost but microchipping is permanent. Countless numbers of pets have been reunited with their owners by this method.
Each microchip has a unique number. This number, along with information about the owner and pet, are added to a national pet registry. Most veterinarians and animal shelters have electronic scanners for detecting and reading these implanted microchips. If a lost pet is found, and the microchip is scanned, the registry is called and the owner is contacted.
PHARMACY /MEDICATIONS/SPECIALTY DIETS:
We maintain a full in-house pharmacy at our hospital. Parkway has an extensive inventory of medication, on-line pharmacy options, nutritional supplements and topical products to help your pet start treatment immediately.
Parkway Veterinary Hospital stocks a wide assortment of prescription and specialty diets. These diets are only available through a veterinarian, and are often a necessary component of treating your pet’s conditions.
